Welcome to Ember. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our journaling application.
Account Data: We collect your email address through Firebase Authentication to allow you to create an account, sign in, and recover access to your account.
Journal Entries: We store the text content of your journal entries in Google Firestore so you can securely access your entries across devices.
AI Insights: To provide summaries and reflections, your journal text may be processed using the Google Vertex AI (Gemini) API.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
Ember uses the following third-party providers:
Google Firebase: Used for hosting, authentication, cloud storage, and database services.
Google Vertex AI (Gemini): Used to generate AI-powered reflections and summaries. According to Google Vertex AI’s enterprise data handling policies, customer content submitted through Vertex AI is not used to train Google’s foundation models without permission.
Images and Media: You may choose to upload images to journal entries. These images are stored securely through Google Firebase and are accessible only through your authenticated account.
Audio and Speech: Ember may use your device microphone to enable voice-to-text journaling. Raw audio recordings are processed temporarily for speech transcription and are not permanently stored after transcription.
Location Data: If you choose to tag an entry with your location, we may collect approximate or precise location data to associate it with that specific journal entry. This information is used only to help you remember where entries were created.
Note Sharing: If you choose to send a “Positive Note” to another user, the content of that note may be screened for safety and shared with the intended recipient.
Usage Data: We may automatically collect limited technical information such as device type, operating system, crash reports, and app performance analytics through Firebase services to improve reliability and security.
Ember is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided personal data, we will take reasonable steps to delete it promptly.
You have control over your data:
Upon account deletion, journal entries associated with your account will be permanently removed from our databases, except where retention may be required for security, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.
Ember and its AI-generated reflections are intended for self-reflection and personal growth purposes only. Ember is not a medical device and does not provide medical, psychiatric, or mental health diagnosis, treatment, or professional advice.
We use industry-standard security measures provided through Google Firebase and related cloud infrastructure to help protect your data from unauthorized access, disclosure, or loss.
However, no method of electronic storage or internet transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updated versions will be posted within the app or on our website with a revised “Last Updated” date.
